I can remember the very first time I visited the Moana Surfrider Hotel, I was 12 and it was during one of our summer vacations as a family. My dad and I sat at the Beach Bar Restaurant under the now 113 year old Banyan Tree eating Mahi Mahi and admiring at the beach. The Moana Surfrider, built in 1901, was the first hotel in Waikiki and is to this day known as “The First Lady of Waikiki”. Since then this hotel has always held a special place in my heart.

Visiting Hawaii every year has become a favorite vacation to look forward to, especially during the winter months. Since my first visit to the Moana, I have always looked to return to the gorgeous hotel each trip. From the breathtaking views and delicious food, to the second to none Hawaiian hospitality and the best Mai Tais, the Moana Surfrider never disappoints.

We decided to catch the sunrise in the Diamond Head Terrace one morning. The lush greenery paired with the bright orange sun made for the most gorgeous morning with spectacular views of the beach and volcano. Afterwards we had a delicious and relaxing brunch at The Veranda (try the acai bowl), overlooking the beach as the glowing sun continued to rise making this one of the most enjoyable mornings during our stay.

What I love most about the Moana Surfrider are all the amenities and of course the location. Front and center on the beach, there is always a reason to wake up early and catch the sunrise. But don’t forget to take a walk along the beach during the sunset for more amazing views. During the day we like to lay out on the beach or by the pool and grab a quick lunch at the Beach Bar; I highly recommend the Poke!

Even though we have already returned from our vacation, I’m anxiously trying to plan our next visit, of course at the Moana Surfrider.
