It’s never not wedding season—I learned this early on, as soon as I was old enough to have friends getting married. No matter the time of year, there’s always someone you know tying the knot, so instead of panicking on what you should wear to a spring wedding, I’m going to guide you through it!
For what it’s worth, I personally prefer midi dresses for almost all weddings unless Black Tie or White Tie is specified. Even for casual cocktail weddings, I find the midi length to be classier and, because it’s always better to be overdressed than underdressed, I err on the side of a bit of length for my wedding guest dresses. But that’s just my opinion! There’s no end of options for womens spring wedding guest dresses regardless of the dress code, so let’s quickly brush up on wedding dress codes and explore some great midi spring wedding guest dress options.

Black Tie Wedding
Black Tie weddings mean the men are required to wear tuxedos, which means the women are expected to dress accordingly in full-length gowns. To be more specific, floor-sweeping ball gowns and maxi dresses are perfect for black tie wedding attire and can be even more elevated with sparkling jewelry to compliment your look. Under very specific circumstances, you can probably get away with a longer, formal cocktail dress but I would suggest going with something like this stunning black gown instead.
Ruffled Satin Gown
Ugh. I love this dress so much. Its hard to tell from my pictures so definitely check the link. The detail is stunning. It’s made from a gorgeous polyester fabric that feels luxe. I love the tired ruffles – perfect for twirling. Because this is a black floor length dress with intricate details, you can easily wear this to your next black tie wedding dressing it up even further with shoes and accessories. Seriously. Have fun twirling in this! Fits TTS (wearing a 4).
Formal Wedding
Formal/Black-Tie Optional are the most common when attending an extremely elegant, fancy wedding. For both dress codes, you’re expected to wear a floor or at least a tea-length gown. If the wedding is a bit more casual but still labeled with one of these dress codes, a sophisticated cocktail dress or an elevated pantsuit will work. This stunning green gown would be an excellent choice for a formal/black-tie optional wedding!
Ruched One-Shoulder Gown
This dress has been on my radar for a few years (& it comes in SO many colors). I normally don’t care for supper fitted styles like this but WOW. Not only is it so flattering, its insanely comfortable! This is a dress you can wear all night dancing and not have to sacrifice comfort level. I’m wearing in the color Mountain Green and its just stunning. This shade could honestly be worn all year. It fits TTS (wearing a small).
Cocktail Wedding
A cocktail attire dress code gives you the most room to play with the delicate balance between elegant, stylish, and comfortable. Tea-length, knee-length, and midi dresses are all appropriate, and you can definitely have some fun with color and detailing. For example, this pink off-shoulder midi dress is a gorgeous choice for what to wear to a spring cocktail attire wedding.
Off-the-Shoulder Midi-Dress
This fuchsia off the shoulder cut-out dress is feminine, flirty, and chic. The silhouette is great for any spring cocktail wedding. I love the detail of the sleeves and how comfortable this dress is. Its extra roomy and has pockets! I would say it runs TTS (I got a small). I maybe could have done an XS but I don’t think I would like how the cut-outs looked if that part was too tight.
Dressy Casual / Semi-Formal
Dressy casual (or semi-formal) allows you to play around with your look a bit. A gorgeous midi or maxi skirt with a dressy top would be a perfect combination. Or, if you’re feeling extra playful and the setting and time of day of the wedding calls for it, this sassy orange midi dress is a wonderful option for a spring dressy casual wedding.
Off-The-Shoulder Midi-Dress
This color is STUNNING. I’m picturing a wedding on the Amalfi coast or somewhere in Wine Country. This dress linen/silk blend dress is so flattering and the silhouette is so fun! You could even play with the dress and add pops of color in the shoes or accessories; greens, pinks, yellow. So many options. I would say the dress runs slightly small. I got my true size (4) and there isn’t much room leftover. I think I would prefer to size up and then have altered where needed to be a little more comfortable.
Destination Wedding
Tropical or destination weddings are incredibly popular for good reason—it’s a vacation and a celebration all in one! I would always err on the side of over-dressing for a tropical wedding just because you don’t want to be that one guest who shows up in a sarong with flip-flops. Keep it classy and festive with a dress like this red one. The ruffle detailing makes it perfect to wear as a guest to a spring beach destination wedding!
Linen Bolero Midi-Dress
This fun little linen number is perfect for a beach wedding! It has cutouts in appropriate places, fun ruffle details and a tie at the back. It’s lined but not too hot! I would look great with more casual shoes too depending on the wedding dress code. FYI because it’s linen, it will wrinkle after sitting, but I think you can get away with it for a beach destination wedding. Dress fits TTS (wearing a 4).
