I love MDW because it represents the unofficial beginning of summertime and all the swimming, backyard BBQs, and summer vacations to come. But I love it even more because EVERYONE is having a sale, and they’re typically good sales, too.

Apparel
The biggest sale category, and the one I’ve thought the hardest about. A few rules I follow this weekend every year:
Buy summer pieces on Memorial Day, not Labor Day. You’ll wear them all season instead of one weekend.
Skip the trends, stock up on the basics. This is the weekend to replace a beat-up white tee, restock denim shorts, or finally get the linen pants you’ve been eyeing.
Think summer essentials. These are the pieces that I’ll wear all season and have a minimal cost per wear - a great swimsuit, white denim, a summer dress I’ll wear on repeat, and a pair of sandals.

Button Down — technically I bought this in blue the other week but if I hadn’t, I would definitely buy it now while it’s on sale. I’ll be wearing this a bunch this summer and well into fall too. The Half Yearly Sale just started today too so there’s a TON on sale.
Linen Shorts — these caught my eye for their longer length and less traditional details while still being timeless. I might also grab this raffia tote and this bikini while it’s 40% off your purchase and 50% off dresses and swim.
One I'm personally passing on: this gorgeous black croc Toteme t-lock bag. I love my ecru t-lock bag but I talked about this in my recent Closet Confessional - rebuying my favorite bags in other colors typically hasn’t been my best investment. A Memorial Day discount isn't enough to make me forget that lesson.
Home
Memorial Day is the sale weekend for home, and most people sleep on it. Mattresses, bedding, outdoor furniture, and rugs are all marked down hard. If you’ve been thinking about upgrading any of these, this is the weekend.
What I’m buying:
