13 Gym Outfits That Will Make You Want to Workout

For a while there, I totally stopped working out. I just hit one of those ruts where I wasn’t feeling it and it most definitely wasn’t a priority for me on top of all the other things going on in my life with travel, house renovations, etc. I knew I would find that motivation again, and I was right! Last week, I worked five days in a row, which I haven’t done in....I literally don't know, and it felt amazing.

I was doubly motivated because it gave me every excuse to break out some of my favorite workout outfit sets to wear, and even buy a few new pieces. Call me basic, but there’s nothing like cute new workout clothes to get me moving! There are three types of workout bottoms I rotate between: running shorts, biker shorts, and leggings. Today, I’m breaking down 13 workout outfits I’ve worn lately that are sure to inspire you to get up and get going!

Running Shorts

Workout outfits with shorts are essential for summertime. As much as I love my leggings, when I’m working out outside, my legs need a breather big time.

The Nike Dri-FIT running shorts are sweat-wicking Dri-FIT with nonrestrictive legs inset and breathable mesh for cooling ventilation; seriously one of my favorite pairs of shorts! Paired with my all time favorite long sleeve top from Nordstrom, this workout outfit is worn weekly! All of these shorts stay put, don’t ride up, and make it easy to move around.

These high waist double shorts by Zella are some of the best running shorts for women I’ve found! They’re available in three colors and come with built-in bike shorts underneath for extra lining and serious comfort. I like to pair them with the All Tied Up Tank from lululemon, which is insanely comfortable and breathable, too!

I also love the Mesh Racer Run Short from Athleta (wearing with Beyond Yoga’s Balanced Muscle Tank in Chai) and the Track That Mid-Rise short 5" from lululemon (wearing with the long sleeve tee also from lululemon, called the Swiftly Tech).

Biker Shorts

Biker shorts are the next great option for workout shorts. I love how they form exactly to your body, so it can almost feel like you’re wearing nothing (in a good way!). There are so many great ones out there, but here are my top favorites biker short outfit ideas:

The lululemon Align biker shorts have an inseam at 8” and come in a ton of fun colors that all look good while you’re moving! I love the thick waistband, too—it’s super flattering on your stomach and waistline. Plus, the fabric itself is weightless and buttery soft. For a head-to-toe lululemon outfit idea, I love wearing these with my All Yours Tee in Washed Black and tying it up into a side knot.

Next up, these ribbed biker shorts from Nordstrom have a slightly longer inseam of 9” and fit like a glove! I love the color, too, and it’s on sale right now. I paired it with its matching ribbed sports bra to create a full biker shorts outfit with sneakers to finish it off!

While I tend to always wear my biker shorts outfits with t-shirts, I also like wearing these lululemon biker shorts with just a sports bra like this super supportive squareneck number by Varley, which is a brand I’m falling in love with rapidly.

Leggings

Leggings are definitely the style I wear the most of when it comes to work outs. For years the lululemon Wunder Under leggings have been my all-time favorite (read my full lululemon fabric leggings guide), but I'm also loving finding workout outfit sets with leggings!

Remember how I said I’m falling in love with brand Varley? These leopard leggings and sports bra are all Varley, and I’m obviously obsessed with this workout look. I wish I could wear it every day; I just don’t do laundry that often!

FP Movement also has amazing workout pieces! I especially like this Happieness Runs crop top and Good Karma Leggings, both in black rib knit fabric and super flattering. Ideal for studio workouts and layering so you can easily go from gym to brunch!

The Beyond Yoga’s Caught in the Middle leggings are moisture-wicking, high waist, and perfect compression. These leggings are supportive, buttery soft (similar to the lululemon Align leggings) and very flattering! I love pairing them with the matching tank for a monochromatic look that isn't black like most of my gym clothes.

Again by Varley are these Nita 27” leggings that hit right at my ankle and offer light-compression and heavy comfort. Paired it with their signature sports bra (seriously love this fit) for an ideal spin class or pilates session look!

My last pair of leggings are by Spiritual Gangster and the name alone just makes me feel like a badass, so it doesn’t hurt that their Love Sculpt leggings look amazing on everyone. I am obsessed with this entire head-to-toe workout outfit for women, including their Metta Plunge Brami sports bra!

Get up, get dressed, and get going!
