10 Winter Fashion Essentials for Your Wardrobe

Capsule wardrobes are all the rage and for good reason—they’re simple and stylish when executed right. This summer and fall, I shared my 10 summer essentials and 10 fall essentials with you guys, and today, I want to share my top 10 winter essentials. This list covers your hat, neck, feet and then some when it comes to looking stylish and staying warm and cozy all winter-long!

1. Wool Coat

“You can never have too many coats.” — Amy Jackson. That is truly my belief, and I’m sticking to it. You guys know I’m all about the camel coat for winter, but that’s just the beginning when it comes to having the perfect winter coat for every occasion.

2. Scarves

Scarves used to be a way bigger thing a few years ago, and while they still are, I think more people are leaning toward one, really high-quality, versatile scarf to pair with outfits for winter rather than 100 different scarves in all sorts of shapes and material. For me, it’s this White + Warren cashmere scarf from Shopbop. It comes in 5 neutral colors so it’s almost guaranteed to go with any outfit, is huge so you can wrap yourself up entirely, and its 100% cashmere quality almost guarantees it’ll last for a few decades and then some.

3. Sweaters

I consider myself an expert at sweater weather. From fisherman style and crewneck, to mock neck and all the cardigans, it’s best to have one of each in your closet to build the quintessential winter wardrobe.

4. Winter Boots

When it comes to winter boots, nothing beats Marc Fisher’s Izzie Genuine Shearling Lace-Up Boots. They’re insanely cute, so cozy, so durable, and can be worn for both activity and leisure. They are totally worth the investment if you’ve been flirting with the idea of treating yourself to a pair. If you live in colder climates, they are necessary. If you don’t but still want some sort of high-rise boots, it’s time to invest in a great pair of combat boots! They’re the same idea and silhouette of these shearling lace-up boots but a lighter option for those who live in warmer states.

5. Faux Leather Leggings

These are a total non-negotiable when it comes to curating your winter wardrobe. If you haven’t had a chance to read my Spanx vs. Commando faux leather leggings review yet, check that out so you know which pair you like for yourself more! They’re just such a great staple piece for a fall wardrobe. The faux leather look offers an elevated version of a comfortable classic, plus they look great with booties, over-the-knee boots, and sneakers for cold weather days.

6. Beanies

A pom-pom beanie is definitely an essential piece of any winter wardrobe. Not only is it adorable on just about anybody, but it really does keep your head warm which is what I call style efficiency at its finest. I love this cable knit beanie from Express! I have it in black, but it comes in a few other color options and it’s on sale right now for just $10! If you’re looking for another option, this ribbed beanie with faux fur pom-pom from J.Crew is even cuter and available for 25% off with code SHOPNOW.

7. Puffer Jacket

Everyone needs a great puffer jacket in their winter wardrobe coat collection. Abercrombie rolled out their mini puffer this year, and I’m in love with the brown faux fur option (also called camel brown by them). It’s the perfect marriage between a teddy coat and a puffer and oh so warm! I love wearing it with just jeans and some of my favorite casual sneakers for a weekend errand-running look during the winter.

8. Knee High / OTK Boots

2020 was the year of not doing anything fancy, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still own a pair of knee high or even over-the-knee boots. As much as these taller boots are for fashion, they also are great for getting dressed during the winter when you want to look fierce but stay covered and warm!

9. Cozy Loungewear

I mean where do I even start with this one?! You can literally not go wrong with any sort of cozy loungewear in 2020, but I definitely had some favorites that came out on top this fall and winter.

10. Non-Ripped Jeans

While I love ripped jeans as much as the next girl, winter is not the time to expose any extra skin that doesn’t need exposing. These are some of my absolute favorite non-ripped, classic and stylish jeans that are perfect for the wintertime, and each pair work perfectly with your favorite pair of booties or over-the-knee boots when it’s a special occasion!

Those are my top 10 winter essential wardrobe pieces. What are yours? Leave a comment!
