Last week, the FJ team hit the streets of New York, AKA the fashion playground of the east coast. Anything goes in New York, but donning your best looks during the brutal winters there can prove to be trickier when it comes to looking good and staying warm. Our editor figured it out in this head-to-toe NYC winter outfit and schooled us on how to combine ivory tones and textures for winter to add depth and dimension to any look. Let’s break it down.

Up top: The first layering piece is a cream sweater by La Ligne. It boasts a 7-ply wool cashmere fabric with a ribbed neckline, hemline, and wrists. While it’s slightly cropped, this winter white sweater hits just below the waist so your skin stays covered from the harsh winter temps. FWIW: Cropped sweaters in true winter weather is a no from us. In case of a frigid emergency, layer a ribbed wool-blend turtleneck over the shoulders for extra warmth, like this piece by Totême. You can never have enough backup, especially when New York City crosswinds hit just right.

On bottom: A high-waisted, slightly pleated trouser instantly elevates a winter white outfit. Our pick? These pants by Rohe in off-white. Tailored pants can go a long way in terms of style and function. Everyone knows that shoes are the most important element of any NYC look with all the walking that’s to be done. These 2” heel winter white ankle boots by Vince are not only comfortable enough to walk miles in, but look sharp, too.
